Our Exhibitors Speak

Margit Weisgal, President and CEO of Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA), will lead a panel of marketing executives to explore how companies decide to exhibit at an exhibition -- or why not. Three experienced exhibitors, from a cross-section of industries, have agreed to tell the ECEF audience, frankly and thoughtfully, what they need from show management to justify their companies' continued investment in trade shows. Margit will ask Francesca Lendrum, Director of Marketing Services at NAVTEQ; Steve Seibert, President of Three Rivers Optical; and Beck Wentz, Director for Customer Events at AmerisourceBergen, to answer the following questions:
1. How do you like to be sold on a show? 2. How do you research and decide on adding a new show to your schedule? 3. What makes you drop a show?
Margit B. Weisgal, CME - President and CEO, Trade Show Exhibitors Association
Margit is finishing up her first year as President/CEO of TSEA after having been an active and long-standing member of the association. She has served several times on the Focus Award Task Force, the Exhibitor Advisory Committee, the CME Certification Committee and the Education Committee. She was awarded the Certified Master of Exhibits (CME) designation in 1993 and is the recipient of TSEA's 2007 Distinguished Service Award, awarded individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the exhibition and event marketing industry. It was a natural move for her to take the helm of an association that she knows so well from a number of vantage points.
Prior to taking on this position, she was both an exhibitor in and a producer of trade shows. She then became a consultant to corporations and show producers to improve client-specific goals and results. Her understanding of the corporate client gives her the expertise to provide an easy way of guiding and adjusting exhibitors in their marketing efforts at trade shows.
Margit has written extensively on exhibit marketing and is quoted in mainstream media such as Business Week. Her book, Show and Sell: 133 Business Building Ways to Promote Your Trade Show is available in paperback at amazon.com. |

Steve Seibert - President, Three Rivers Optical
Three Rivers Optical (TRO) is a privately-owned company in Pittsburg, PA, with revenues of more than $17 million. It manufactured optical lenses and ophthalmic products including frame bases and glass, plastic, polycarbonate and hi-index lenses. TRO has accounts from Maine to California and has been selected as the Transitions Lab of the Year. Steve started there when he was twelve and now, after 30 years, he and his two siblings run the company his parents started and relinquished when they retired in 2003.
Until he took over sales and marketing along with the presidency in 2003, TRO had never participated in trade shows. Today, TRO's show participation has strongly contributed to its growth and success. Steve believes in controlled growth, only opening new territories and hiring new salespeople when there is ample business to support them. Trade shows, as one of his marketing strategies, will be a large part of achieving this growth. |
